Eisenhower welcomes undefeated Northwestern
Home tests on tap tonight
RUSSELL — The Eisenhower Knights welcome the undefeated 4-0 Northwestern Wildcats to their home field tonight for Senior Night.
The Knights come into tonight’s game with a record of 5-1 after coming off a COVID-related two-week layoff. Eisenhower last took the field against Cambridge Springs, a game the Knights won, 14-0.
Northwestern played Union City last week, shutting down the Bears 39-0.
The Wildcats run a multi-formation offense that is led by 5-foot-11 senior quarterback Ryan Tewell, who is 20 of 26 passing on the season for 584 yards. The leading rusher for the Wildcats is junior Ben Campbell with 20 carries for 195 yards.
“They’re a very physical run team up front, but are even more frightening at what they can do in the passing game off of the run game,” Eisenhower head coach Jim Penley said. “Their quarterback has been outstanding for the last couple of years; he just has a plethora of talent around him and he uses each and every one of his players.”
The strength of the Wildcats lies in their defense.
“Their defense is aggressive, but plays very responsible in their assignments,” Penley said.
The Wildcats have only yielded 18 points on the season and have shut out both Union City and Maplewood.
The Knights come into the game tonight with a new quarterback. Shawn Pascuzzi will get his second start due to a season-ending injury to junior Garrett Jensen. Pascuzzi has played in each game this season, including the Knights’ last win over Cambridge Springs.
The Knights are led in rushing by junior running back Keegan Eckstrom’s 484 yards. Junior wide receiver Wyatt Lookenhouse has become the deep threat for the Knights, averaging 24.7 yards per reception and has scored twice.
This game will be a test for the Knights and could come down to the defense of both teams being able to stop the other.
“Most of the Class A teams in our region have struggled moving the ball against them this year,” Penley said of the Wildcats. “They’re just an all-around talented football team that has their sights set on the postseason. It will be a tremendous test for our football team.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with senior recognition ceremonies starting at 6:30.
