Eisenhower opens baseball season with victory

RUSSELL — Eisenhower opened its baseball season successfully, scoring six runs in the first inning on its way to an 11-7 District 10 Region 3 Conference victory over Union City on Monday afternoon.

Jared Beers, Teagran Gray and Alex Kemery all had two hits for the winners, while Beers and Gray both drove in a pair of runs, and Garrett Jensen, Cole Chapman, Kael Hunt and Kemery had one RBI apiece.

Owen Trumbull, the winning pitcher, worked the first five innings, scattered four hits, gave up a pair of unearned runs, walked three and struck out nine. Kemery, who also stole three bases, worked the final two frames.

After its big first inning, the Knights tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the third and one more in the fourth. Union City tallied two runs in the fourth, four in the sixth and one in the seventh.
