Where’s the concern?

Dear Editor, Bruce Cockburn wrote a song, “If a tree falls in the forest, does anybody hear?” And it’s true today. In Genesis, God created the earth and said it was good. That means cutting down most of the trees in the Allegheny National Forest is a sneaky plan by the Forest Service supervisor. One needs to watch the “Chronicles of Narnia” to know trees are alive and that there is a better way. But those who don’t pay attention probably never read C.S. Lewis. If the had, they’d also remember Noah collected all animals two by two — God making the case for ...

Warren not Biden country

Dear Editor, Ignorance is bliss. Worse, organized ignorance, is dangerous in current times. Why? Joe Biden for president. How? A tectonic faiure of public education dumbing down America. Scandalous decades of taxpayers throwing good money after bad — with no accoutability Biden — at the teachers’ union. Results: highest cost per student versus dismal in the basement performance coupled with anti-civil rights to deliver good education and school choice. Why? Ignore Biden’s bumbling history. Biden’s sins are great. Silence while in-basement hole up avoiding open ...

Hypocritical signs

Dear Editor, First, just a reaction. Recently, a reader expressed discontent that letter writers should be limited to once a month. I disagree. It is a modest restriction and without it, those like myself who delight in pounding opinions into the keyboard would bore the public even more than we do. That said, I have a serious issue to bring up: The theft and defacement of Joe Biden yard signs. What is it about Republicans? Four years ago it was the same thing. The county Democrats had ordered 300 signs for Hillary Clinton, and they were in hot demand. All but three were stolen; ...

No purpose to voting

Dear Editor, Voting is not as important as it used to be. Years ago it was effective, but not anymore. I listened to a DVD featuring the late George Carlin explaining why he does not vote. I think he has good reasoning. He states that most politicians do things wrong and screw things up. People come to him and complain about what they did. His reply to them is to not come and tell him about it as his conscience is clear as he did not vote for them so he does not have to live with the wrong that the politician did wrong. This hits a personal note on my part. In the last local ...

Meddling president Dear Editor, President Donald Trump does not want us to be able to vote safely in the national election on Nov. 3 because he thinks mail-in voting will result in his defeat. To this end, he is interfering with the delivery of the mail by the U.S. Postal Service. He wants us to go to the polls to vote in person in the middle of a pandemic. He does not care about the citizens of this country and he certainly does not see himself as a protector of the rights guaranteed to us by the Constitution. He did swear an oath to “preserve, protect and defend the ...

What’s in a promise? Dear Editor, Sometimes while traveling thought town, I see signs saying, “Promises Made, Promises Kept” and I wonder just what promises were made and kept. So I researched it and found there were more than 100 promises made but few kept. A sampling: ¯ Better health care — not happening. ¯ Infrastructure improvements — not even close. ¯ Renegotiate the Iran Nuclear deal - no way. ¯ Grow the economy by 4% a year - never happened, not once. ¯ Drain the swamp — How many top Trump aides have been arrested? Six so far? ¯ Bring back ...
