A loss of balance

Dear Editor, With the 2020 Presidential election wrapped up and the mob accusing President Donald J. Trump of attempting to overturn the will of the people, I ponder on the last four years of his Presidency. The outcries, where were they during or after Russia Gate, while Hillary Clinton, the DNC, FBI and the deep state sought and attempted a coup d’etat of a sitting President. The establishment and media were silent. The very things they accused our president of they themselves were engaged in. Words spoken by anonymous sources were and are to be taken as truths. Silence ...

Input from home

Dear Editor, With so much discussion with the city and what we can do to entice people to visit, I feel we lose something in this mindset. How can a city expect people to want to visit our quaint little town when many citizens are trying to escape it? I feel catering to outsiders doesn’t solve the cities issues. We need an actual solution that start from within. One of the most common ideas floated by the city, from what I have seen, is the hotel near Breeze Point Park. Several times, over and over, has this very idea proven to be hugely unpopular. Currently as the city is, I ...

Partners with vaccine

Dear Editor, As people try to find COVID vaccines, a huge thank you should be extended to Gaughn’s Drug Store and Experience Inc. Agency on Aging. They are working together to schedule vaccine clinics and their efforts are to be commended. They have stepped up to provide a vital service to those eligible to receive the vaccine. Despite a limited vaccine supply and logistical challenges, we are very fortunate to have a pharmacy and agency willing to roll up their sleeves and lead the fight against COVID. Thank you again for a job well done. Susan Wilson Scandia

How do you wear that?

Dear Editor, The Feb. 4 Times Obsever has a nice photo of U.S. Rep. Kathy Rapp speaking at a House Health Committee, which she chairs, meeting and hearing. The little bit of the video that downloaded shows Ms. Rapp with her mask as in the photo. You’d think a person who chairs a health committee just about anywhere would know — and properly follow —guidelines to help protect their and others’ health. Don Hanna, Scandia

Preserve city park

Dear Editor, Below please find a link to a draft parks plan that the city is preparing to publish. On page 18 — 10th page of the PDF document, the plan falsely asserts that Washington Park is “suitable for intense development.” Washington Park is completely natural, and a formally recognized Passive Use park. “Intense development” is of course anathema to its primary purpose. On page 22 — 12th page of the PDF document — misguided plans to convert the entire Washington Park into — for all intents and purposes — an amusement park for mountain bikers are outlined. The ...

Not my America

Dear Editor, Has America bankrupted its moral and legal values? More than one month ago the United States and the world witnessed the unthinkable on Jan. 6, when the National Capitol was invaded by a violent mob of insurrectionists intent on overthrowing our government; even to arrest or do whatever to our elected representatives, all the while vandalizing the building. These vandals carried various derogatory signs, even the American flag with Jesus emblazoned on it. Some signs read, “Hang Pence.” Some even carried the cross to probably imply divine approval for their ...
