Vote no on bill

Dear Editor: Contact your Representative and tell them to vote no on House Bill 606, RADAR for municipal police. RADAR is only for money, not safety: this bill is a tax on every driver. What is the motivation for giving municipal police RADAR? The RADAR lobby says in order to make it easier to enforce speed limits. But the speed limits are politically set at unsafe speeds of between 8 to 16 mph slower than the speeds people safely drive, to make it easy to write tickets. The House needs to put an end to the enforcement-for-profit-not-safety racket that has infected Harrisburg. ...

U.S. falling behind

Dear Editor, America’s Constitution used to help ensure that we were the land of fair play. One team of players in the game, however, has gained the upper hand. Instead of playing fairly, they have decided to break the rules with such bills as H.R. 1 (For the People Act) and S. 51 (Washington, D.C., Admission Act), practically guaranteeing that the other team will never experience another win, and the league will never see another fair game played out again. Dear Editor, Instead of working hard to free us from the ineffective, ruinous and deadly covid lock-downs, the Transportation Committee is feverishly working to tax every motorist with House Bill 606, RADAR for municipal police, while keeping Pennsylvania’s roads dangerous. RADAR will not make roads safer. RADAR will only allow local governments to fleece safe drivers. Properly set speed limits, posted at 85th percentile speeds, will make the roads safer for free. Dear Editor, I’m amazed how politicians, with the “stroke of a pen,” can open the southern border to such an influx of new immigrants. Some say there are already 12 million in the country and others say it’s underestimated and closer to 20 million. Driving revenue

Dear Editor, A recent story shows an incorrect understanding of traffic engineering. The way speed limits are supposed to be set is called the 85th percentile. Tickets are then supposed to be given only to egregious violators. In Pennsylvania, speed limits are almost always underposted and many areas ticket people barely over the speed limit. The impact is that we ticket our safest drivers and create situations that may be unsafe. Pennsylvania allows municipal police to enforce speed limits, so radar is unnecessary.
