Childish in defeat

Dear Editor,

Sometimes it takes something as simple as a comic strip to illustrate a pertinent political point.

Take, for instance, the running episode in last week’s Baby Blues cartoon strip. The young girl of the family is devastated that she was not chosen as Student of the Week by her teacher. The episode culminated in a crying fit on her bed yelling “It’s not FAIR!” Mom asks, “Why isn’t it fair?” In typical childish fashion, she answers “It’s only fair when I win!”

It’s only fair when I win.

Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? We have had two years of accusations and investigations into “rigged” elections by candidates who campaigned to their political base and essentially shut out and ignored any input, questions, or comments from anyone other than their big donors, sycophants, and those who always vote a certain party without bothering to really listen to the candidate.

So far I have not heard of one political race where the election was truly rigged or votes miscounted; the races were lost merely because people of a certain race or political persuasion also voted, those very people that the candidates shut out in their campaigning.

It’s only fair when I win. The election was rigged. How very childish.
