Youngsville picks up 2nd softball victory

SHINGLEHOUSE — Youngsville scored seven runs in the third inning and never looked back, collecting its second win of the season with a 20-10 victory over Oswayo Valley on Friday.

The Eagles benefited from their patience in the big inning, working five consecutive walks before Molly Helman connected on her second hit of the third inning — a bases-loaded double that scored Hailey Gray, Alyssa Gentz and Marli Rectenwald.

Youngsville added to its lead in the top of the fifth inning, scoring first when Ireland Abraham worked a bases-loaded walk. Vanessa Romanosky followed with a two-out, two-run single and Marissa VanGuilder plated two runners of her own with a double before the five-run inning was over.

The Eagles pushed the lead into mercy-rule territory in the sixth inning, beginning with an RBI double from Helman that scored Gray.

Later in the inning, Madison Carnahan singled to score pinch-runner Desi Merritt, Romanosky collected a two-run double and a Rectenwald single plated Peyton Kent.

Kamden Swearingen pitched all six innings to earn the win and also had a big night at the plate with two hits, two walks and four runs scored. Gray and Helman each had four-hit efforts and scored four runs apiece.

The Eagles will search for their third win of the year today when they host Cochranton.
