Remake Learning Days connects PA families to adventures in learning

PITTSBURGH — Remake Learning Days, which began in 2016, returns to northwestern PA with hundreds of scheduled dynamic events that are designed to propel achievement, cultivate curiosity, foster family bonds and open career pathways for PA students and their families.

Remake Learning Days partners with local organizations to host free, hands-on, collaborative events that are designed to energize learning, especially between May 2 through 22.

In Warren, Enchanted Engineering will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. May 15 at the DeFrees Family Center, 207 Second Ave., Warren. The event will have those participating using problem-solving skills with some familiar and favorite stories. For more information about this event contact the organizer Jennifer Madigan at jmadigan@jdfamilycenter.org.

“The events of northwestern PA’s Remake Learning Days festival create a roadmap for families to continue experiences all summer long that help students avoid summer learning loss and set the stage for so many healthy, positive gains,” said Carrie Butler, a representative for Remake Learning Days.

The Remake Learning Days festival is founded on a mounting body of research showing that shared community exploration and learning improves students’ academic performance and social skills, exposing them to a world of opportunities, interests and life changing experiences.

“Our communities are home to organizations doing incredible work,” shared Co-Producer of Remake Learning Days Yu-Ling Cheng. “Remake Learning Days is a catalyst to connect families with fun and inspiring events that empower them to think in fresh ways, learn new skills, and dream for the future. Remake Learning Days ensures these opportunities are open to all, promoting greater access to experiences that enliven learning for children and strengthen families.”

Events for Remake Learning Days are organized by six learning themes: Arts, Maker, Outdoor Learning, Science, Technology and Youth Voice.

Remake Learning Days has hosted nearly 3,800 events for pre-K through high school students and reached more than 225,000 families across all regions.

This year, the nonprofit anticipates record attendance at more than 2,000 events, reaching an estimated 30,000 number of students, family members and teachers. The festivals will take place in 13 regions in the U.S. plus Uruguay, New Zealand and the U.K.

A variety of organizations, such as schools, museums, libraries, after school organizations, early childcare centers, universities, media centers, tech startups, and more, open their doors and host events for families to learn together. Most events are free and open to kids of all ages.

Remake Learning Days is grateful to the support of The Grable Foundation for its global support, The Pennsylvania Department of Education for its support across the state of Pennsylvania and to local sponsors for individual regional festivals.
