Russell man jailed after threats
A Russell man is in Warren County jail after allegedly trying to get into multiple apartments and threatening people with a knife on Wednesday.
Steven E. Bateman, 52, of Russell, is charged with aggravated assault, two counts of terroristic threats, disorderly conduct and harassment.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Pennsylvania State Police responded to Melody Lane on a report of a suspicious male trying to get into multiple apartments.
When they arrived at the scene, police found Bateman on the ground, being restrained by another man, according to the affidavit. That man told police Bateman had brandished a knife and threatened him with it.
Through an investigation, police said they learned that Bateman had also threatened two other people, one with a gun, according to the affidavit.
Bateman was arraigned before District Judge Laura Bauer and taken to Warren County jail after failing to post $35,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4.
