Warren baseball walks to win
BRADFORD — “This is something I have never seen before in my life,” reported Warren head baseball coach Johnny White.
The Dragons were in Bradford on Friday and when the seven innings were up, neither team had a hit, but Warren won the ballgame 3-1.
How does this happen? Needless to say, the Dragons were the beneficiaries of some wild Owl pitching and were able to score all of their three runs in the fourth inning via walks and hit by pitches.
David Manning got the action started by getting hit by a pitch. All of a sudden it was bases loaded with Gabe Thibodeaux at the plate, where he would get a walk to put the Dragons up 1-0. On deck was Zane Carlson who followed suit by also getting walked, then two batters later the same result came from Bradey Chase.
With the visitors up 3-0, the Owls did manage to cross the plate in response, but it was not enough for Manning’s impressive 6 2/3 inning effort on the mound. Manning struck out seven Bradford batters, and Duncan McGarry earned the save for the victory.
Manning earned the win, with Bradford’s Brody Haviland getting the loss.
In junior varsity play, the Dragons tied the Owls 4-4.
Warren returns to play Saturday as they head to McDowell to face the Trojans.
