TITUSVILLE — The Warren boys and girls cross-country teams competed at the District 10 Championships on Saturday at the Ed Myer Complex. In order to qualify for the state meet in Hershey, a team must finish in one of the top two spots, or be a top-10 individual with the teams removed.
Two boys and two girls were able to meet those qualifications in seniors Morgan Alexander and Riley Evan, as well as sophomores Cole Fitzgerald and Leyton Salvatore, all of whom had fantastic regular seasons.
In the girls race, Alexander ran a 19:42.00 to finish in 13th overall, and Evan ran a 20:01.00, good for 16th. The top two teams in the AA girls race were Cathedral Prep and Grove City. With those teams taken out, Alexander finished sixth, and Evan ninth. Also competing for the Dragons were Emma Peterson (23rd), Ella Cull (72nd), Rose Rioux (79th) and Loralei Johnson (92nd). The Region 4 undefeated Dragons finished seventh in the team standings for the championships.
For the boys, state qualifiers Fitzgerald finished sixth overall with a time of 16:21.00 and Leyton Salvatore ran a 16:32.00 to finish in 10th place. The top two teams for the AA boys were Grove City and Harbor Creek. As a team, the boys ran very well, earning a fourth-place finish out of the 17 teams that competed. Warren was also represented by Grayson Collopy (21st), Chase Fetzeck (59th), Levi Peterson (89th), Gavin Heeter (91st) and Mason Smith (109th).
“(I am) very proud of how both teams ran today,” Warren head coach Kevin Dustin said. “We plan all season to run our best for championships and they did that today. We had season-best times all around. I am excited to have a pair of boys and girls to represent Warren next week at states.”
Alexander, Evan, Fitzgerald and Salvatore will compete as individuals for the Dragons this Saturday in the PIAA Cross-Country Championships at Parkview XC Course in Hershey.
