Eisenhower athletes compete in Shippensburg
SHIPPENSBURG — Five Eisenhower track and field athletes saw their spring seasons come to an end Friday at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Track & Field Championships, hosted by Shippensburg University.
Senior Riley Robinault finished 25th in the Class AA long jump. She reached 16 feet, 4.25 inches in her first jump, faulted on her second jump, then reached 11 feet, 5.5 inches in her third-and-final attempt.
Junior Rosalie Rondeau took 29th in the high jump. She reached 15 feet, 10.5 inches in her first attempt, then leapt 15 feet, 3.25 inches in her second attempt and faulted on her third-and-final attempt.
Robinault also took 19th in the high jump. She cleared 4 feet, 10 inches on her final attempt, then faulted on all three attempts at 5 feet.
Junior Chase Myers tied for 15th in the high jump. He reached 6 feet on his first attempt, then faulted three times at 6 feet, 2 inches.
Myers also placed ninth in the preliminaries for the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.00 seconds. He was just a hundredth of a second behind eighth-place Luke Confino, a junior from Delaware County Christian who grabbed the last qualifying spot for today’s final.
Senior Ethan Beers finished 11th in the long jump with a distance of 21 feet, 3.25 inches. He opened with a leap of 20 feet, 4 inches, then hit his best jump on his second attempt before faulting on his third attempt.
Freshman Alex VanGelder tied for 14th in the discus. He reached 144 feet, 11 inches with his first throw, then faulted on his second and third throws.
Beers will also compete in the triple jump this morning. He is grouped in Flight No. 2 with a seed distance of 46 feet, 1 inch.
Junior Joe Gigliotti will compete in the 3,200 meters this morning. He is seeded 16th with a time of 9:34.93.
Warren junior Max Spiegel, the only Dragon to qualify for states, is seeded third for today’s Class AAA high jump competition at 6 feet, 8 inches. The competitors to jump higher this fall are Franklin Regional junior Sean Cartwright (6-9) and St. Joseph’s Prep senior Noah Popp (6-10).
