OIL CITY — “From the first whistle to the last whistle — no regrets.”

That mentality helped Warren junior Meea Irwin score five goals in the Dragons’ 12-0 win at Oil City on Tuesday. It’s also helped her amass 89 career varsity goals in just 2 1/2 seasons to become Warren’s all-time leader in goals scored.

“Early second half, Meea scored her fourth goal of the contest, making her our program’s all-time leading goal scorer with 88 goals in less than three seasons,” said Warren coach Mark Ordiway. “Meea is an amazing player and goal scorer. She is one of the hardest working and most dedicated players I have ever had the privilege of coaching. Even in practice, she goes all out, which helps the entire team raise their level of play. Meea had a career game as she also added four assists.”

Meea’s twin sister, Leyna Irwin, had a second half hat-trick of her own, and she added three assists to her tally.

Meea was quick to point out that her individual success would not be possible without her teammates, her family, and a special connection with her twin sister.

“I have always had my sister, who pushed me to become the best version of myself,” said Meea. “We have fantastic chemistry and I want to give a big thanks to her because this record would not be possible without her. I am so proud of her and what she has accomplished. Her commitment to Edinboro is a huge milestone. We have always been each other’s biggest supporters and we push each other to be better every day, no matter what it is, in and out of soccer.”

Short of twin telepathy, Leyna calls it a privilege to play on the same field as Meea.

“Meea and I have been at each other’s sides since day one,” said Leyna. “We look up to each other. We push each other everyday to be better. We play with a special chemistry. Every play we know how to position ourselves for each other. Meea knows exactly where I like to play the ball. She is such a determined, hard working player. She especially works when no one is watching. To have been given the privilege to play by her side and for her to be my sister is truly an honor.”

Meea Irwin and Kaylee Cyphert scored two goals each to help Warren (4-5) take a five-goal lead into halftime.

“Kaylee is always at the right spot at the right time and today she was able to cash in with her first two goals of the season,” said Ordiway.

Lani Wenzel added a goal and assist, and Madison Jones also assisted a goal for Warren — in its third shutout win in four games.
