Eisenhower welcomes Union City

Times Observer Photo by Steve Younger Eisenhower’s Caleb Jakubczak has rushed for 369 yards and two touchdowns in 2024.

Eisenhower (3-2 overall, 1-1 in Region 3)) improved their record last week with a convincing 27-0 win over Cochranton. Tonight the Knights welcome winless Union City.

On paper, this game is a trap game for the Knights. They statistically have a far-superior rushing game than the Bears, but the passing game is nearly identical, as Union City has passed for 191 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions, while Eisenhower has thrown for 233 yards with one TD and three picks.

The visiting Bears are led by 5-foot, 10-inch, 165-pound sophomore quarterback Matt Eliason, who has one passing touchdown and has rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown, and 5-5, 135-pound senior Austin Brown, who is averaging 94 yards per game on the ground.

Eisenhower junior quarterback Caleb Jakubczak has rushed for 369 yards on 48 carries and a pair of touchdowns. He also has thrown for 233 in his first year directing the Knights’ offense. Junior tailback Logan Penley is close on the heels of Jakubczak with 326 yards and four touchdowns.

Sophomore Joe Gigliotti has proven he belongs in the backfield as he is averaging 17.4 yards per carry on only nine touches.

Eisenhower’s defense is starting to gel as it held Cochranton to less than 100 yards of total offense last week. The Knights, who also have five interceptions (Jakubczak leads with two) and four fumble recoveries, sacked the Cochranton quarterback three times last week.

The Knights will look for their second region win tonight on their home field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Starting at $3.50/week.
