Warren girls win 8th straight

FRANKLIN — Warren’s girls basketball team held Franklin to single digits in three quarters in a 39-27 Region 5 win Thursday at Franklin Senior High School.

It was the Lady Dragons’ eighth straight win to improve to 6-0 in the region.

“The girls executed a great defensive game plan,” said Warren coach Lisa LaVan, whose Dragons are 14-4 overall. “Their big is tough at 6-foot-2, and Halle (Kuzminski) did great work on her, making her work for every point.”

Warren point guard Sammie Ruhlman scored 10 of her game-high 20 points in a 15-10 first quarter and the defense took over from there, holding the Knights to two second-quarter points.

Katie Boal led Franklin (11-8, 3-4) with 16 points in the loss.

“Our guards shut their guards down to zero,” said LaVan. “None of them scored. So proud of these girls and their drive. Lots of distractions and negativity and they just keep grinding. I love this group and would go anywhere and play anyone, anytime with them.”

Kuzminski finished with eight rebounds in the win.
