The Warren girls basketball team won its 10th straight game, 62-23 over Region 5-opponent Oil City on Monday at Warren Area High School.

It was a win-win for the Lady Dragons as they raised $1,500 for Live Like Lou on ALS Awareness Night.

“Tonight was so much more than just a game to me,” said senior Caitlin Barney, whose family has been impacted by ALS in her late father, Ed. “It showed how my friends, family, and the community came together to show their continued support for me and my team. It was a great way for other families affected by ALS to honor their loved ones. It is exciting to see we are still able to raise money in my dad’s memory that will be used by the Live Like Lou Foundation to help other families affected by ALS. I love my coaches and team for their continued support as well. Coach Lisa (LaVan) has always pushed me to be better and has given me so much advice that I will forever carry with me. I could never have asked for a better team, which is like my second family.”

Seemingly secondary, Warren improved to 15-4 overall and remains in first place in the region at 7-0. Oil City, held to single digits in every quarter, falls to 8-11, 1-6.

“Proud of the way they worked,” said LaVan. “We were focused on our ‘D,’ and working to execute more on offense.”

Alyssa Farr hit three 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 17 points. Peyton Wotorson added two 3s and 11 points.

Lavan called it a “very very touching night.

“That kid (Caitlin Barney) is why coaches coach,” said LaVan. “She is a good one.”
