Warren softball loses fifth straight
Warren’s softball team lost its fifth straight game — 17-0 to visiting Cathedral Prep on Monday — to fall to 4-10 overall.
“There’s just no excuses, as there never should be, for losing tonight,” said Warren coach Carissa Stuart, whose Dragons are 3-7 in Region 5. “Two things happened tonight; we failed at hitting and we failed at throwing strikes. Plus, all the hits we had went right to someone for easy outs. Frustrating is an understatement, but I have to credit the girls for working through it. I know they’re not OK with that performance, but hearing them encourage one another when nothing was going right is reassuring that they know the other side to sports, and that sportsmanship does exist and the biggest picture is always about being a good teammate.”
First-place Cathedral Prep, which scored five runs on one hit, five walks and a hit batter in the top of the first inning, improves to 14-1 overall and 9-0 in the region.
Prep batted around twice in the third for a 15-run-rule, three-inning victory. Four Lady Dragons pitched over three innings.
“Our focus is on tomorrow now and honoring our three seniors before the game and appreciating all the time they’ve given to this program,” said Stuart.
Warren hosts Erie High at 4 p.m. today at Lady Dragons Field.
