Dragons rally in 7th vs. Meadville

The Warren baseball team won in dramatic fashion Wednesday evening at Old Legion Field, as the Dragons defeated the visiting Meadville Bulldogs 4-3.

The final score did not do the game justice as it was yet again another emotional rollercoaster for the Dragons.

The game started with one-run innings from the Bulldogs in each of the first three innings.

The score remained 3-0 until the Dragons finally got the goose egg off the scoreboard via an Eli Snyder RBI single to knock in Duncan McGarry in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Dragons held the Bulldogs scoreless in the top of the seventh, meaning they had to score at least two runs to keep the game going.

Tage Wyman got the action started with a single in the bottom of the seventh, then quickly advanced to second by a Meadville balk. Colin Zdarko lined a single to right field to score Wyman to cut the Meadville lead to 3-2.

With the momentum starting to shift, the Bulldogs struck out the next two batters. Needing something to happen, the Dragons got exactly what they hoped for. McGarry got on first after getting hit by a pitch, then David Manning walked. An errant pitch allowed Zdarko to score to tie the game 3-3, but more importantly, move McGarry to third base.

An intentional walk to Broc Bryan put Eli Snyder at the plate with two outs and the bases loaded. Snyder would stay poised at the plate and watch four balls go by him to score McGarry and win the ballgame 4-3.

“We did what we do best. We grinded our at bats and kept pushing through the adversity,” Warren head coach Johnny White said. “They put up three runs in the first three innings, but we never backed down or packed it in. I’m extremely proud of our guys because that’s the blue-collar baseball we’ve worked hard to instill in these boys. We did a great job and we’re going to ride this momentum into the second half of the season.”

The Dragons look to keep the ball rolling Friday as they travel to Union City to take on the Bears at 4 p.m.
