More records fall

Senior Beyer, sophomore Harrison shine for Warren

School records continue to fall this week for Warren senior Katie Beyer and sophomore Hugh Harrison. Beyer broke her own 400-meter free record on Wednesday after besting the 100-yard backstroke on Monday. Harrison broke two marks on Wednesday — the 200-meter free and 400-meter free. “They’ve got a lot of momentum,” said Warren swim coach Russ Beyer of the Dragons after a sweep of Meadville on Wednesday.

There were three more records broken in the meter pool at the Warren YMCA. Warren senior Katie Beyer and sophomore Hugh Harrison were at it again.

Beyer broke her own WAHS 400-meter freestyle record for the third time this season in a winning time of 4:38.92. She was also on the winning 400 free relay team with Katie Krogler, Summer Lucks and Kirsten Johnson in the Lady Dragons’ 94-78 victory.

Harrison broke WAHS records in the 200-meter free and 400-meter free. His winning 2:00.57 in the 200 free broke a 2014 record set by Logan Gearhart of 2:01.37. It’s the second Gearhart record broken this week by Harrison.

Harrison’s winning time of 4:25.72 in the 400 free broke Andrew Beyer’s record 4:34.79 set in 2019.

Russ Beyer, Andrew’s dad, said it was Andrew’s last standing WAHS record, but if anyone was to break it, “he’d want it to be Hugh.”

Hugh also teamed with his brother Max, Graham Carr and Derek Hahn in winning the 200 free relay. Warren’s boys took a 104-48 victory.

Coach Beyer called it an electric night on Senior Night “versus Meadville and well-rested.

“We swam a lot of ‘best times,'” said coach Beyer.

Max Harrison added wins in the 50 free, 100 free, and with the winning 200 medley relay team with Cristian Johnson, Hahn, and Connor Fehlman. He just missed the school 50-meter free record, but Beyer said “there’s always the yard record (to go after in the postseason).”

Fehlman added a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, and Hahn wins in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM.

Jack Seyler qualified for districts in the 100 backstroke.

For the Lady Dragons, Johnson won the 200 IM and 100 back, and Lucks added first-place points in the 100 fly.

Beyer said Sam Caudill qualified for districts in her fourth event of the season; “that’s outstanding for a freshman.”

Warren’s defending D10 champion diver, senior Katie Madigan, won by a large margin on Wednesday.

Warren will ready for the postseason by swimming tired at Brookville today.

Starting at $3.50/week.
