3 Dragons advance at Fred Bell tourney

GROVE CITY — Three Dragons have advanced to the second day of wrestling today after day one of the annual Fred Bell Memorial Tournament.

All three — Ryan Fitzsimmons, Josh Letko, and Tristan Dolan — will have to wrestle back after Friday night losses at Grove City Area High School.

At 106 pounds, Fitzsimmons lost his first and won his second.

Letko is 3-1 at 132 pounds after winning, losing, and winning two straight to end the night.

At 215 pounds, Dolan, like Letko, is 3-1, but Dolan lost his opening match before winning three straight.

Although eliminated on Friday, Jack Napolitan (126), Hector Cruz (145), Grant Hester (152), Damien Sanchez (160), and Jason Stillson (172) had victories.

EAGLES FALL TO

UNION CITY

UNION CITY — Union City took advantage of Youngsville’s short roster to post a 45-21 wrestling victory.

“With only seven contested matches, our goal was to win the majority of those matches, which we accomplished,” said Eagles coach David Myers.

Cody Jesperson and Ian and Aidan Mancuso all picked up falls in their matches, and Caden McCune claimed a 6-4 decision over Steven Klakamp. Youngsville had to forfeit five matches.

Myers complimented Logan McDonald, who lost a “heartbreaker.”

“We’ve been hit pretty hard by injuries and illness lately, Myers said. “Hopefully we can get healthy for the upcoming postseason.”

The Eagles are in a tournament this weekend, and then travel to Seneca on Monday for a dual meet.
