Party of values Dear Editor, Warren County Democrats filled Russell’s Larimer Park to capacity last week. The gathering had a family feel as children of various ages were in attendance. The park’s playground equipment, ample parking, three large pavilions, green expanse along the Conewango Creek, plus pleasant temperature, made an ideal setting for the gathering. It was a fundraiser, meet the candidates, and rally the troops event. Democratic candidates spoke briefly, answered questions, and made themselves available for face to face discussions. Circulating among the ...

No learning curve Dear Editor, Due to some selfish people on our school board, our taxes will be increased again. This means we will go from eight tax increases in 15 years to nine in 16 years. These people do not care what is best for all: only what is best for them. Student enrollment dropped almost every year in the past 15 years. I am guessing student enrollment dropped by 800 students in those 15 years. Yet taxes continue to increase? Consolidation would save money. More courses could be offered leading to a better education for all students Look around our county. ...

Support for Dems Dear Editor, On behalf of the Event Sub-Committee of the Warren County Democratic Committee, I would like to express my appreciation and thank all of the people who attended and supported the Soup-er Voter Celebration on April 20. It was a huge success due to the enthusiasm, participation, donations, and excellent attendance! We were also fortunate to have candidates and dynamic speakers attend. Thank you to all who attended, donated, and helped make it a great fundraiser. It is the best one I have ever attended! Don’t miss our summer event called Grassroots ...

‘Desperation’ in project Dear Editor, I too would like to stop the planned Hudson development of elderly housing, mainly because the property is perhaps the last piece of prime real estate in downtown Warren. We already have elderly housing downtown next to Soldiers & Sailors Park / Music in the Park: Allegheny Point Apartments. It was sold under the pretense of downtown economic development and fueled by state grant money. (Hudson is also fueled by grants) I know several folks residing in Allegheny Point Park. Being elderly on a fixed income is tough. Buying food and ...

Banks present dangers Dear Editor, Because of a recent accident in our family, we were pleasantly surprised to see the article on restoration of the Brokenstraw Creek’s banks (June 17). On May 26 two of our family members were walking the beautifully peaceful trail along the Brokenstraw near Youngsville when one walked to the bank, unaware it had been undercut about 18 inches by high water. When the bank gave way, she fell 8 to 10 feet, breaking five vertebrae and five ribs. The father of one of her ICU nurses had a similar accident on a creek in Corry and a man she recently ...

Trumping accusations Dear Editor, Various writers label Donald Trump a proven insurrectionist. Yet he has never been charged, much less convicted. His opponents throw all they can at him. They likely know it wouldn’t “stick.” Of course, Trump handled his exit from office imperfectly. He should have used the “bully pulpit” on national TV insisting on a peaceful transition. He should’ve treated Vice President Mike Pence better. But he didn’t lead the buffoonish Jan. 6 rioters. Retired Army Lt. General Keith Kellogg witnessed Trump’s offer to send National Guard ...
