Trumping accusations

Dear Editor,

Various writers label Donald Trump a proven insurrectionist. Yet he has never been charged, much less convicted. His opponents throw all they can at him. They likely know it wouldn’t “stick.”

Of course, Trump handled his exit from office imperfectly. He should have used the “bully pulpit” on national TV insisting on a peaceful transition.

He should’ve treated Vice President Mike Pence better. But he didn’t lead the buffoonish Jan. 6 rioters.

Retired Army Lt. General Keith Kellogg witnessed Trump’s offer to send National Guard troops to the capitol prior to Jan. 6. Kellogg, apparently futilely, wanted Congress to make his testimony public.

Why didn’t the Capitol Police accept Trump’s offer? Capitol Police are governed by the Capitol Police Board. Its three voting members are the House Sergeant-at-Arms,the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms and the Architect of the Capitol. The first two would answer to Chuck Schumer and (at that time) Nancy Pelosi. An honest media, then, might accuse Schumer and Pelosi of emboldening the rioters by not accepting National Guard presence.

The House committee on Jan. 6, chosen by Pelosi, consisted of 7 Democrats and only 2 Republicans. Those two were known “anti-Trumpers” Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. No balance, Nancy!

Then Schumer threatened Supreme Court justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh over Roe vs. Wade — “You won’t know what hit you!” Later, protesters loudly demonstrated in front of the justices homes. It’s illegal to attempt intimidation of a Supreme Court justice. Maybe Schumer committed insurrection.

And the ‘regressives’ fixate on Jan. 6 far more than months of rioting in 2020 after George Floyd’s death.

Alejandro Mayorkas, so-called Director of Homeland Security, was impeached by the House for allowing — with Biden’s obvious approval — our southern border to become a disaster. The Democrat-ruled Senate voted not to try Mayorkas.

Apparently, the “party line” rates higher than their endangered constituents.

Under political pressure of an election year, Biden issued an executive order to, supposedly, limit the border invasion. But it’s nonsense. The allowable “threshold” is 2,500 crossings a day. That could allow 900,000 a year.

That equals the combined populations of Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati.

With “gotaways,” it could be a million.

With Trump, we had low inflation, energy independence, secure borders and “peace through strength” deterrents. Trump was effective. Biden is not.

John Yoo is a law professor and a former Deputy Assistant Attorney General. Citing the “take care” clause of the Constitution, Yoo informs us that state officials are forbidden from prosecuting alleged federal offenses. This was the case in “New York vs.U.S.” (1992), “Printz vs. U.S.” (1997) and “Arizona vs. U.S.” (2012) Listening, Alvin Bragg?

This alone, says Yoo, should overturn the sham trial verdict if taken to the Supreme Court.
