Preliminary hearings held Wednesday

Five guilty pleas were entered while charges were withdrawn against three during preliminary hearings held on Wednesday at the Warren County Courthouse.

The following defendants entered guilty pleas:

¯ David J. Carruth, 44, Warren, to statement under penalty. A count of materially false written statement — purchase, delivery, transfer of firearm was withdrawn.

¯ Jason N. Hazeltine, 43, Bear Lake, to possession of marijuana.

¯ Michael A. Larkins, 60, Union City, to statement under penalty. A count of materially false written statement — purchase, delivery, transfer of firearm was withdrawn.

¯ Ashley J. Thornton, 42, Ludlow, Pa., to possession of a controlled substance while a count of possession of drug paraphernalia was withdrawn. At a second docket, charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia were withdrawn while a count of public drunkenness was re-categorized as a non-traffic offense.

¯ Steven J. Wedge, 34, Warren, to possession of drug paraphernalia.

Charges were withdrawn against the following:

¯ Kenneth L. Blum, 70, Sheffield. Blum had been charged with accident involving damage to attended vehicle/property, fail to keep right, pass left unsafe, passing where prohibited, disregard traffic lane and careless driving. Charges of fail to stop and give information or render aid and failure to notify police of accident.damage to vehicle were re-categorized as traffic offenses.

≥¯ Quentin M. Howard, 32, Warren. Howard had been charged with theft by unlawful taking and theft of services.

¯ Anthony M. Melice, 18, Warren. Melice had been charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. A count of disorderly conduct was re-categorized as a non-traffic offense.
