CITY MAN CHARGED AFTER ALLEGEDLY KICKING OFFICERS IN GENITALS

A Warren man was jailed after he allegedly kicked a Warren police officer in the genitals after a traffic stop.

Chad A. Gelotte, 54, was charged with first-degree aggravated assault – attempts to cause or causes serious bodily injury to designated individuals, misdemeanor DUI: general impairment/incapable of driving safely, obstructing administration of law/other government function, resisting arrest/other law enforcement, false identification to law enforcement officer and six traffic citations. At 9:13 p.m. Friday, Warren police officers responded to a report of a possible drunk drive in the area of Conewango and Pennsylvania avenues. A caller said a vehicle had hit a curb and was swerving in and out of its lane of travel. An officer then found the vehicle on Pennsylvania Avenue East and Buchanan Street. The officer, according to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, saw the vehicle almost hit a parked vehicle and almost hit another vehicle that had pulled off to the road to allow the vehicle to pass. The officer also said in the affidavit that he saw the allegedly drunk driver swerving within the entire road. The officer pulled the vehicle over as it pulled into a Canton Street driveway at 9:17 p.m.

“A male exited the vehicle immediately and began arguing with officers of the legality of the traffic stop in his driveway,” the officer wrote in the Affidavit of Probable Cause.

The officer asked for the driver’s insurance, registration and driver’s license multiple times, all of which were allegedly denied. Officers report smelling the odor of alcoholic beverages on Gelotte’s breath and allegedly saw two open beer cans in the center rear console of Gelotte’s vehicle. At 9:23 p.m. officers tried to arrest Gelotte for failure to identify and DUI.

“While conducting the arrest and search incident to arrest his person, (Gelotte) turned and kicked a uniformed city of Warren police officer in the genitals. (Gelotte) was placed into the ground where the search was conducted from that position.”
