Attracting professional workers is imperative to Warren County’s health

Dear Editor, Living in a rural area, we understand that not everything we want will be available to us in our little community. One aspect of American life that every community should be entitled to, however, is the “professional” class. In the past few years, I have noticed the glaring need for more members of the professional class in Warren; more doctors, veterinarians, accountants, and nurses. Having these occupations nearby is crucial to the health and well-being of the community. These jobs have left the area because of a declining population and a lack of county and ...

Urge state representatives to vote no on HB 279

Dear Editor Urge your PA House member to vote no on HB 279. HB 279 was before the House Transportation Committee on August 11. It’s purpose is to give illegal (undocumented) immigrants PA Driver’s Licenses. Those here illegally should not have the privilege to drive. If after they are granted asylum, which 95% will not, they will need a driver’s license while seeking a green card or citizenship. Those not granted asylum will be deported. Is this the first step in the left allowing illegals to vote? Daniel Reiff Warren

Lengthy drought could bring fires to county

Dear Editor, The forest fires out west must have the local National Forest personnel thinking – and rightfully so. Forest floors are full of dead wood and leaves like a tinderbox just waiting for a fire to start. The forests around Warren County are no different. You might think that’s not the case but if you’ve been near forests around here you maybe aren’t seeing it. Maybe you’re in camping areas, often cleaned up of debris, or driving through our National Forest roads where trees are usually cut and cleaned up regularly to keep from falling on cars and wires. Not many ...

Driving up costs

Dear Editor, This is comment is regarding the elimination of the gas tax. Before anyone starts cheering, do some math. Currently the gas tax is 58 cents per gallon. For the sake of convenience let’s say 60 cents. In theory if your car averages 30 mpg that equates to 60 cents divided by 30 equals 2 cents per mile. Now do the math with a usage tax — actually a toll road. That same vehicle, which averages 30 mpg becomes 30 mpg times 8 cents per mile results in a tax of $2.40 per gallon ..... a quadrupling of the original tax. One more case in point, a lot of travel is done ...

A quiet fear in nation

Dear Editor, Have you noticed that there are very few letters to “Reader’s Speak” lately? Why is that? Is it because everyone is OK with the rising prices on gasoline, groceries, clothes, and natural gas? Are they just so giddy over the prospect of Critical Race Theory in our schools, cancel culture, and open borders that they do not feel the need to question policies? Or, is it because some are experiencing “buyers remorse” and can’t admit their vote was a mistake? It is likely none of the above. There is an old saying that “You don’t appreciate what you have ...

Opportunity in the U.S.

Dear Editor, The big lie being perpetrated by the liberal media and the Democrats is that Americans should be ashamed of our flag, national anthem and our heritage. The incessant propaganda espouses that America is racist and oppressive. So let’s hear some truth. Today Japan is hosting the the 2020 Olympiad. In 75 years since the end of World War II, Japan has become a manufacturing and technology giant in the top three of the world’s economy. Japanese Americans are among the wealthiest and most successful people in America. This is in spite of the fact that socialist ...
