Signs and sense

Dear Editor,

This is regarding signage. Here are two questions that come to mind with regard to Warren’s general ambiance.

First, why should any business put out political signs if they want to attract business? If I see a Trump sign on a business (all right, substitute a Biden sign if that’s your pleasure), I am not going in there. I won’t give them my business even if I have to drive to Jamestown or Kane to get what I’m after.

If they’d just omitted the sign, we could all just be indifferent to each other’s preferences, do what we came for, and go on with our day.

Second, many citizens are tired of political signs that include obscenities, especially in school neighborhoods.

Maybe some are all right with their second-graders learning to sling the f-word around, but most are not. Consider what visitors to the city see. These exhibitions make Warren look like a tacky backwater, which it certainly isn’t. Further, an observation from the world of

real estate is that it’s harder to sell a house if it has a Trump sign next door, and such houses are likely to hang longer on the market. You’re downgrading your neighborhood.

You have a right to put up your political views, but use some sense and reasonable good taste. The community will benefit.
