YOUNGSVILLE — After spending a week practicing indoors in what looked like anything but spring season, the Youngsville baseball team returned outside with a vengeance on Saturday, picking up a pair of 15-0 victories over Eisenhower and Forest Area at Davis Street Field.

“Any time you’re able to get two wins in a day it’s great, but we can’t be satisfied and need to stay focused,” said Youngsville coach Eddie Dorunda. “Our schedule gets a little bit tougher here in the next few weeks, starting with Union City on Tuesday. Right now, we have a target on our backs and everyone in our region is looking to knock us off.”

The Eagles had little trouble on Saturday, heating up the cold weather with a seven-run first inning en route to a four-inning victory over the Knights.

The Eagles sent 11 batters to the dish in the opening inning. Matt DeSimone had a single and a double in the frame, James Johnson had a double of his own, Nathan Lucks and David Manning had singles, Wyatt Dalrymple was hit by a pitch and Ethan Beers, Lane Buccardo and Talon Mesel all walked.

Johnson was 3-for-3 with three RBIs in the victory and added a triple to his double later in the game. DeSimone finished 2-for-2 with four RBIs and collected five stolen bases. Manning was also 3-for-3 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored.

Lucks got his second win of the year on the mound, pitching all four innings and allowing just three hits with six strikeouts.

“The boys have been itching to get back on the field and they came ready to play,” said Dorunda. “Practicing a week straight in the gym is tough, but we took advantage of getting extra reps in the batting cage. It carried over into today’s game and we put the ball in play and good things happened.”

Johnny Palmieri, Ayden Stiteler and Jarius Casey all had singles for Eisenhower and starting pitcher Derek Childs recorded five strikeouts.

As if the seven-run first wasn’t enough, the Eagles (4-0) put 12 runs up in the first inning of the victory over Forest Area and needed just three innings to complete a 15-0 win.

Dalrymple got the start and pitched a three-inning perfect game, striking out four.

The senior also shined on the offensive end, driving in four runs and hitting the team’s first home run of the year. Brayden Baker had a team-high three hits, DeSimone, Lucks and Dalrymple all added two hits and Johnson, Rylan Benton, Chase Myers and Gavin Bundy also collected hits for the winners.

“It was nice to be able to give our younger guys a chance to start the second game and show us what they can do,” said Dorunda. “Rylan (Benton) and Chase (Myers) both had their first varsity hits and Gavin Bundy also made a nice basket catch in right field.

“Brayden Baker continues to impress me in practices and in the first few games this season. He’s aggressive at the plate and has some noticeable pop in his bat. He’s going to keep getting more opportunities to put himself in the starting lineup.”
