Warren falls to Erie High in playoff-prep

Erie High scored three times in the second half to defeat Warren’s boys soccer team 3-0 on Saturday in a non-region match at War Memorial Field.

“Coach (Denny) Flatt said he was looking for a playoff-level match and that’s what he got,” said Warren assistant coach Chris Darling.

Warren — the top PIAA Class 2A team in District 10’s Region 4 — is 11-5 overall. Class 4A Erie is 8-7 overall, playing in Region 5 (3A/4A).

The Dragons, having entered Saturday’s contest winners of 10 of their last 11 games, played Erie to a 0-0 halftime score, nearly scoring first about 20 minutes into the match.

Senior defender Corban Reinard led Warren in tackles and continues to have a great season, according to Darling.

“Chase Sitler also had a great game at defensive mid, neutralizing many of the Erie attacks,” added Darling.

Erie scored 10 minutes into the second half on a ball that got behind the defense.

“(Goalkeeper) Will (Nebinski) had a nice game, though, making 9 saves in the match,” Flatt said.

Erie added an insurance goal with Warren pushing to tie, and a third in the waning minutes.

Warren rounds out the regular season by hosting Eisenhower on Tuesday and Titusville on Thursday, both at War Memorial Field.

Starting at $3.50/week.
