Eisenhower entertains Seneca for homecoming

Eisenhower welcomes Seneca for its homecoming football game tonight.

Knights head coach Jim Penley calls it a “tremendous test.”

“They are probably the most well-rounded team we’ve played so far,” he said. “They lost in overtime to Mercyhurst Prep or they would be undefeated.”

Seneca (2-1) is led offensively by senior tailback Ryan Seabury and senior quarterback Nolan Miller, who are among the top players in District 10 this season.

“Both of these runners are outstanding, and Miller is probably one of the best athletes in the county,” Penley said. ” … Their line is good size and quick off the ball. They run block very well and get good vertical push.”

The Knights (3-0) can pose problems on offense, too, particularly in the running game.

Senior tailback Benji Bauer leads Eisenhower with 437 yards on 46 carries and six touchdown, while junior fullback Tucker Lindell has been impressive with 129 yards on only 15 carries and a pair of touchdowns. Junior quarterback Shawn Pascuzzi, fresh off a three-touchdown effort last week against Union City, continues to impress, completing 14 of 35 passes for 284 yards and two touchdowns. He has yet to commit a turnover.

“The Bobcat defense is very well-coached,” Penley said, “and they certainly will make us be accountable to that. Their defense is physical and aggressive and defends the run very well. We have to be able to move the ball against them. … Their defense is physical and aggressive and does very well against the run.”

Eisenhower’s defense has been stout, yielding only 91 yards rushing. Last week against Union City, the Knights made 29 plays that resulted in negative yardage.

“We are going to need to run the ball, and it is absolutely critical that we find a way to play disciplined on defense to combat how effectively they run the option,” Penley said.

Opening kickoff for tonight’s game is 7:30.
