Hepinger shines as Sheffield boys prevail

SHEFFIELD — After a postponement due to COVID-19, Sheffield was able to bounce back from a weekend loss to handle Forest Area, 65-28, Thursday night.

Sheffield dominated the first half putting up 43 to Forest Area’s 11.

“Tyler (Hepinger) did a good job of getting to the basket early,” said Sheffield head coach Jordan Copley. “Connor Johnson did a nice job of getting the ball around to the open man and Connor Finch played awesome defense inside.”

Hepinger led the Wolverines with 27 points, 19 of which were in the first half. Hepinger is just 24 points away from reaching the 1,000-point milestone on his career. Copley stressed that although 1,000 points is one of Hepinger’s goals it is not the main one at the moment.

“Tyler’s goal is to help the team win basketball games and he has expressed that to me,” Copley said. “Obviously it’s a great milestone as a player, but he knows the culture we are trying to create and is more than willing to play his part.”

Sheffield will have a busy weekend, going on the road to Curwensville today, and then hosting Dubois Central Catholic Saturday afternoon.
