Dear Editor, The story goes that as delegates to the Constitutional Convention were leaving one day a woman asked Benjamin Franklin, “Doctor, what have we got? A republic or a monarchy?” He replied, “A republic if you can keep it.” The question now arises, are we finally losing the Republic that our Founding Fathers sacrificed so much for? One scary sight

Dear Editor, We all have so much on our minds these days, but we need to remember that school is in session and the school buses are running. I just witnessed what could have been a tragedy, as a motorist passed a stopped school bus which was about to let a precious little boy off to cross the street in front of the bus to get to his home. The bus driver did honk the horn and I’m sure was very careful to make sure the little boy was safe. I truly thank the Lord that it ended well, but we drivers need to make sure that it always does. Party doesn’t determine winner Dear Editor, I was reading the paper one morning regarding the election results and found it to be a sad continuation of the Republican efforts to upend the results of a free and fair election. Regardless of party affiliation, the results seem pretty clear and no widespread fraud has been found. Dear Editor, The virus likely cost President Donald Trump the election. Fair or not, crises usually hurt the incumbent. Trump’s correct actions included stopping flights from China, pushing the manufacture of masks and ventilators and sending the hospital ship to New York. There’s more, though he underdid cautions. Dear Editor, I am very concerned about the increase in hunger during this pandemic. Less than half of families with children are “very confident” they can afford to put food on the table this holiday season according to the latest Census Bureau research. People are being forced to choose between rent and groceries. Some leaders in Congress are ignoring this hidden hunger crisis, dragging their feet on any food assistance for families.
