U.S. ‘sadness’ from 2020

Dear Editor, Happiness and sadness occur every year. In 2020, due to the virus, happiness was compromised and sadness deepened. About half of us are unhappy with the election. I, and others, have stated correct reasons for our concerns. Before that George Floyd was brutally murdered by former policeman Derek Chauvin. Chuavin faces trial soon and should pay dearly. Floyd’s murder was the “spark” that set off three irrational responses. First came the riots. Rioters committed assaults, trespassing, arson, obstruction of passage and vandalism. They’d say it’s “justice ...

Sore losing

Dear Editor, My friends and I played enough sports in our life to fully understand and accept winning and losing. When we were very young a loss brought tears to our eyes. A few years later a loss resulted in a sulk, and some years later it was pure anger when we lost a game. In our late teens we shook hands with the winning team. As young adults we would shake hands and enjoy a beer with the winners. It’s unfortunate that Donald J. Trump and too many of his supporters can’t accept the fact that he lost the presidential election, shake hands with president-elect Joe Biden ...

Avoiding disaster

Dear Editor, Can you imagine what would’ve happened if President Donald Trump had prevailed and gotten governors, electoral representatives or the Supreme Court to nullify 20,000,000 voters and declare himself Dictator or Supreme Leader of the United States? We would no longer be a democracy! We would be no different than Cuba, Venezuela or Russia! Allan L. Gustafson, Warren

A distorted country

Dear Editor, Sociopaths do not make good presidents. The sociopath’s world centers around his skewed perception of reality. The sociopath creates alternative facts to support his alternative reality. How so, let me list a few examples. 1) exaggerated inauguration crowd size 2) the Sharpie doctored weather map 3) insistence on Putin/Russian non-involvement in American affairs 4) COVID-19 will magically disappear, etc. This fantasy is akin to the long ago reality dispute between the earth being the center of the universe ( Geocentric) versus the earth revolving around the sun ...

U.S. has lots to ‘lose’

Dear Editor, I’m sure glad we have a local celebrity in Readers Speak (Dec. 21) explain the Republicans’ error of their ways, especially after the Democrats have done nothing but attack Republicans for four straight years without a single break. Now our celebrity wants us to “come together” in the interest of democracy. I kept asking myself, why can’t democrats see “what’s right in front of their face”? Then it hit me – it’s “not right in front of their face.” They watch all the network news (i.e., CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC and NEWSY) and those groups do ...

Inside the numbers

Dear Editor, Are you around 32 people in Warren County in a day? Do you shop for groceries, hardware, or other things and see 32 people in the store or 32 cars in the parking lot? Do you go in to the following areas such as pharmacies, post office, work, or other establishments or buildings and come in contact with 32 other people? Then statistically, you have been exposed to a person that had or has COVID-19 or a person that was exposed to the virus according to the state’s Department of Health on Tuesday. Warren County’s numbers are spiking and Christmas will be here in a ...
