Wilder Museum’s regular hours end for season this weekend
Photo provided to the Times Observer Brad Bogard’s antique gun display will be part of Saturday’s presentation at the Wilder Museum in Irvine, which, outside of special tours, will close for the season after Saturday.
The last chance to check out the Wilder Museum for the season is coming up quickly.
The Historical Society’s museum at the old Irvine school is set to close after Saturday’s 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. hours.
“There is a very recent addition to the museum’s exhibited portraits donated by David Beaty IV’s estate,” WCHS Managing Director Michelle Gray said. “Hugh A. Jamieson’s portrait is displayed in the Warren County Furniture Manufacturing exhibit, painted by the late nineteenth-century artist William Greaves.
Jamieson, she explained, ultimately settled in Sugar Grove before moving to Warren to pursue the law.
“In 1863, he purchased a few thousand acres of timber land in Kinzua Creek which led to the ownership of Warren Woodenware Works and the opportunity to invest in local flouring, sawmills, and sash, door and blind factories,” Gray said. “He was elected Burgess of Warren in 1882 and was a co-founder of Citizens National Bank. Hugh passed at the age of seventy-seven in his childhood home in Sugar Grove.”
Brad Bogart, an antique gun collector, will be displaying his collection on Saturday as well, next to Joseph DeFrees collection of over 100 antique guns.
“Both collections are a must-see for any and all antique firearm admirers,” she said.
Gray added that the museum will continue to be available for special tours until Thanksgiving, which can be scheduled by contacting the Society.
