RDA removes properties from blight list

Collaboration between county and municipal officials has brought resolution to several blighted properties.

The county Redevelopment Authority struck a slew of properties in Columbus, Limestone and Sheffield Township from the list on Tuesday.

Two in Sheffield were struck because people are not living in the properties and improvements are underway and a third was removed at the recommendation of the township.

A property at Bush Lane in Limestone Township was removed because the structure has been demolished.

Two were removed in Columbus Township were removed as well with one — 16 E. Main St. — drew the most discussion.

Chief Clerk Pam Matve said the structure has been demolished but that the open basement foundation remains.

She said she advised the owner to set up some kind of fence but the owner said that people should not be on his property. She added that the situation as it sits today may be a building code issue.

Matve said township officials asked it to remain on the list until the open foundation was resolved but the RDA disagreed.

“I think we’re done with it,” Authority member Rob Hart said. “We shouldn’t have anything to do with the foundation system.”

The RDA also forwarded what will be the Warren County Landbank’s first two properties – 63 2nd Mill St. and a Saybrook Road property, both in Sheffield Township.

The landbank board held its second meeting immediately after the RDA meeting and reviewed some of the forms that will be required for the group’s operation. Formal action was tabled for a month to allow members to review.

“As much as I want to get these on the website and going now, I want to make sure everyone is comfortable,” Phil Gilbert, landbank chair, said.

Starting at $3.50/week.
