Dragons score early, fall 17-4 at McDowell
ERIE — The Warren girls softball team was on the road as they faced the McDowell Trojans in what would be the only Warren High School sporting event of the day as the other four events were postponed due to weather.
Warren scored early, but ultimately fell 17-4 in Region 6 action.
The Dragons came out swinging as Emma Gray hit a single followed by Alanna Warrior’s first-ever career home run to put the Dragons up 2-0.
The Trojans responded with full force, crossing the plate 10 times in the bottom of the first to take the commanding lead. The Dragons would tack on one run in the second inning via an Emma Gray RBI to score Sydney Barr, but the Trojans scored an additional six runs in response to go up 16-3 after two innings.
The third inning featured an Alexis Jones lead off single where Barr would capitalize with a single up the middle to score Jones for the Dragons fourth run of the evening.
“Olivia (Romanosky) started and did her job by getting ground balls and fly balls,” Warren head coach Samantha Mott said. “We just didn’t help her get out of the innings without inflating her pitch count. So after 1 2/3 innings, I put in our freshman pitcher Bristol Holden in and she held her own. She didn’t allow an earned run until the fifth, which was promising.”
The Dragons return to play Thursday as they head to Fort LeBoeuf at 4 p.m.
“This team has the talent to compete with all of these teams,” Mott said. “We just haven’t clicked like I know we will. We have to figure out what to do defensively to clean up the errors and take the pressure off of us and put it back onto our opponents.”
