Council OKs bids for road work
The Warren City Council in a brief Monday special meeting signed off on bids that will result in the reconstruction of South South Street.
In addition to the road work, the project includes sidewalks and storm and sanitary sewer replacement.
City Engineer Chad Yurisic said bids were received and opened on June 2. Funding for the project comes from federal Community Development Block grant funds awarded in federal fiscal years 2017, 2018 and 2019.
He said three bids were received with Lakeshore Paving submitting the lowest responsible bid at $457,750. He said that total comes in under the $591,249.31 in total CDBG grant funding available.
Mayor Maurice Cashman asked when work would start and Yurisic responded “not soon enough.”
He told council that it usually takes about one month from council approving the bid for the contractor to get the bonds and insurances needed to start the work.
He said the council should anticipate seeing work begin around the beginning of July.
This is the first of three straight Monday meetings for council.
Next Monday, the council will fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Christian Zavinski and the following Monday, June 21, will be council’s regular June meeting.
