County COVID cases continue to increase

The number of cases of COVID-19 continues to rise in Warren County.

After a record high 20 new cases reported on Friday, there were nine new cases over the weekend and two more reported on Monday.

That brings the county total to 165 — with 143 being confirmed and 22 probable.

That equates to 417.7 cases per 100,000, according to the Department of Health COVID data dashboard, still the lowest in the state, but not by much. Cameron County had a rate of 423 per 100,000 on Monday.

According to Gov. Tom Wolf and Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine, the surge is common throughout the state, with only Cameron County having less than 5 percent positivity, and the nation — with only Hawaii not experiencing an upswing.

According to the dashboard, there are three cases at Warren General Hospital.

Weekly statistics about nursing homes are reported on Tuesdays.

The Warren County School District has had some cases, but the impacts have not reached to closing any schools.

“We have had 14 confirmed cases of students or employees in the district since the first day of school,” Superintendent Amy Stewart said on Monday, “We continue to contact trace and keep students and employees at home when they have been in close contact of a positive case.”

In Monday’s briefing, Wolf said in-person education, including extra-curricular activities, remains a local decision, but that the state will step in when there are cases where schools cannot follow the guidelines.
