Repairs coming for Warren intersection
City of Warren, PennDOT, Warren County planning, Northwest Planning Commission, and adjacent property owners inspect the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Market Street on Wednesday.
In a few years, the intersection of Market Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in Warren is up for some major work.
On Wednesday, officials from PennDOT, the City of Warren, Warren County Planning and Zoning, Northwest Planning Commission, and adjacent property owners got together to check out the site and talk options.
“We were there for a field view of the project,” City Department of Public Works Director Mike Holtz said.
The intersection project is set for 2020.
What the project will look like is uncertain.
“There are several options,” Holtz said. The details differ, but the two basic concepts come down to an intersection with “traffic lights or possibly an intersection without traffic signals,” he said.
“The consultant will look at the traffic counts and the traffic patterns,” Holtz said. The information and any proposals will go before City Council.
While PennDOT and the city will work together on the project, Holtz does not expect the state department to dictate one choice or the other.
“I think the ultimate design of the intersection will be at the local level,” he said.
There were about 15 PennDOT officials at the Wednesday visit, including intersection Project Manager Chris Boyer-Krantz.
They were looking at more than possible ways they might improve or reconfigure the intersection.
“They also looked at curbs, drainage, the condition of the road itself, and utility poles,” Holtz said.
Road improvements on Market Street, from the northern city limits to just south of Pennsylvania Avenue, are scheduled for 2019.
