Loleta Campground closing for the season on Sunday

MARIENVILLE — The USDA Forest Service announced that the Loleta Campground in the Allegheny National Forest will close for the season at noon on Sunday. The closure is necessary to allow for the completion of a road maintenance project. The roads in the day-use parking area and the lower campground loop will be seal-coated and chip sealed to extend the lifespan and utility of the asphalt pavement. “We regret that we must close the Loleta Campground for the season earlier than expected and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our visitors,” said acting Marienville District Ranger Joe Gomola. Gomola continued, “The project will improve road safety and provide a smoother driving experience for our visitors when the campground opens next spring.”

Outdoor club to hike

The Allegheny Outdoor Club will hike Toms Run at Hearts Content on Sunday, Sept. 17. The group will meet at the Hearts Content Recreation Area at 2 p.m.
