A ‘disturbing’ column

Dear Editor, The column “Why it’s not surprising young men are abandoning college” by Kathleen Parker in Times Observer was disturbing. I reread it in order to look very carefully at what the author was actually saying about the slipping position of men’s power and esteem in our culture today. As I listed on paper her facts and figures, I began to realize she was writing an essay of irony on the value our culture had placed on women for many centuries until the role reversal the author lamented on in her essay, gained ascendency a half century ago. Dear Editor, Ask, why masks? Answer: ¯ COVID cases among children are surging in the U.S. as students head back to school. ¯ Infections in children are highest in areas with low vaccination rates and where schools don’t follow CDC mask guidelines. ¯ The CDC recommends the universal use of masks in schools, regardless of vaccination status. At least 1,000 schools in 35 states have closed for in-person learning since the start of the school year due to COVID-19. Finding our way

Dear Editor, I recently saw a church sign in New York that said, “Do Your Best, Let God Do The Rest.” This is a perfect example of humanistic religion, as it ejects the sovereign will of God from a person’s life. We recently have dealt with hurricanes in the east, and are currently battling wildfires in the west. The failed pullout from Afghanistan cost 13 American lives and one hundred plus Afghan lives, notwithstanding the fact that we will pay for this fiasco somewhere down the road. Pro-life hypocrisy

Dear Editor: People who are pro-life should also be pro-mask and pro-vaccination, but many are not. Masks and vaccinations are proven life savers. Nearly all of the COVID cases and deaths are among the unvaccinated. Why can’t these people realize their hypocrisy? Delta Airlines is self-insured for health insurances. The have calculated that every employee COVID hospitalization costs them $50,000. To pay for this, they have imposed a $200 per month health insurance surcharge for all unvaccinated employees. No board compassion

Dear Editor, The magic words are ... appalled, incredulous, shocked? Pick one. The statements attributed to Arthur Stewart and Paul Mangione at a recent emergency school board meeting imply that they are tired of the responsibilities of the office.
