FRANKLIN, Pa. – Sheffield girls basketball coach Brandon Troutman has been stressing to his team that it takes playing four quarters of basketball to win games, and being on the wrong side of a 21-4 third quarter Saturday afternoon in Rocky Grove did the Lady Wolverines in, falling 40-20 to ...

Youngsville, Sheffield fall on the road

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS, Pa. – When Youngsville and Cambridge Springs met in Youngsville earlier this season, the Eagles kept the game close until the waning seconds. The Blue Devils made sure there wouldn’t be a repeat of that performance on their home court Friday. Cambridge raced out to a 20-4 first quarter lead and ran away with a 64-46 Region 3 win. “We got dominated on the boards and the score showed it,” Youngsville coach Jesse DeLoof said. Lance Welker, Trent Wheeler and Matt Andrews took advantage of those second chance opportunities-with Andrews and Welker each ...

TCCS, Sheffield girls bested at home

The turnover differential is often one of the first things coaches point to following a loss. The more turnovers you have, the harder it is to win. That was certainly the case at Tidioute Charter Friday night. TCCS finished with more turnovers (32) than points scored in a 71-29 loss to North Clarion. “Turnovers were at a high tonight and you can’t have turnovers against North Clarion,” TCCS coach Christy Valentine said. “Bad passes turn into fast breaks and easy buckets for such a strong team. Tidioute boys get historic win

Tuesday night featured a little bit of history for the Tidioute boys basketball team. Jared Veasey scored 21 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Bulldogs picked up their first-ever Region 1 victory with a 40-34 win over Commodore Perry. “It’s good for the kids, they really battled,” said Tidioute coach Terry Cotterman. “We started out strong, but the second quarter, we have to get over the second quarter stuff. We got a little sloppy and got in some foul trouble.” The second quarter Cotterman referred to saw the Panthers outscore Tidioute (8-5 overall, 1-1 Region ...

Lady Knights roll to victory

The Eisenhower girls methodically took care of business on Tuesday, beating Tidioute 59-34. Lydia Giannini had another double-double with 22 points and 18 rebounds, Emiley Wheeler had 14 points and Lilee Renninger 10 points, eight rebounds and three steals. “A win is a win, we’ll take it,” said Eisenhower coach Mike Logue. “We looked a little tired and fouled a lot, which allowed the game to stay close early.” Logue praised the work of Renninger, as well as Alexis Courtney. “They both had great games for us,” Logue said. “They kept us going in that rough ...
