After suffering its first loss of the season, Warren’s volleyball team bounced back to sweep Harbor Creek on Thursday at Warren Area High School.
“It was a very good win against a solid Harbor Creek team,” said Warren coach Mike Dolan, whose Dragons won 25-16, 25-18, 25-15. “I wish we had started out a little stronger in each set, but we were able to grind out the points and pull away in each set.”
Madelyn Nosel had 14 kills and Maddy Jones 13 in the win for Warren, which improves to 13-1 overall and 10-1 in Region 5.
“Malysia Sorensen keeps us in a lot of points with her standout play on defense,” said Dolan. “Sophie Walker also made some nice plays in the back row, and served well. Madelyn Nosel and Maddy Jones led the attack again and Lindsay Madigan was very efficient running the offense.”
Added Dolan: “Tonight our middles, Attie Corey and Julia Getner, made plays all along the net and are improving every game and are turning into a nice offensive threat for us. Once we get everyone healthy again, we will have lots of good options in the front row.”

Madigan finished with 37 assists and 13 digs, Nosel 9 digs, Walker 8 digs and 3 aces, and Jones 7 digs.
Offensively, Getner added 5 kills, Lauren Fajbik 3 kills, and Corey 3 kills and 2 blocks.
Defensively, Sorensen had 25 digs.
“It was nice to play in front of the terrific flannel panel once again and a big community turnout for our Pink-Out game, which raised needed money for a local woman battling cancer,” said Dolan. “We have one more region game next Tuesday at home versus Erie High for our senior night.”
Also on Thursday, Warren’s junior varsity defeated Harbor Creek, 25-16, 25-23. Paiden Johnson had 17 digs, Addison Ristau 9 digs, Brooke Sherry 10 kills, Brynn Norris 13 assists, Hailey Cabisca 3 kills and 3 digs, Lara Pearson 7 kills, Addison Brown 2 kills, and Michaela Dolan 6 digs and 6 assists.
LADY KNIGHTS HOLD ON
WEST MIDDLESEX — Sometimes a long bus ride can take a team out of its normal routine, and for Eisenhower that was almost the case, but then hung on to defeat West Middlesex, 22-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-20 and 15-6.
“It took us a little while to find our rhythm,” Lady Knights head coach Lori Pascuzzi said. “Give West Middlesex credit, they took advantage of some holes in our coverage until we made some adjustments.”
Eisenhower was led by Caroline Smyth, who had 5 kills, 2 blocks and added a pair of aces. Marissa Gourley had another strong game and contributed 7 kills. Alanna Byrd led the Lady Knights with 5 aces and she also contributed 2 kills and a block.
“We never stopped hustling, Pascuzzi said. “It probably wouldn’t win any awards for a pretty win, but this is a scrappy bunch and they never give up. I’m super proud of how they played tonight. Once we found our groove, we started to set up and that is when we started our scoring.”
KANE TOPS SHEFFIELD
SHEFFIELD — Sheffield’s volleyball team lost a close one to Kane, 20-25, 16-25, 26-24, 21-25, at Sheffield High School.
“We had plenty of opportunities to kill the ball with 119 swings, but we were only able to get 23 kills, and had 30 attack errors,” said Sheffield coach Melissa Lemay. “We have struggled with lopsided attack stats all year, and we just can’t seem to run a consistent offense. Our passing is allowing us to be in system, allowing us ample opportunities. We have been battling illness this week, and the girls are pressing and working through it as best they can. Tonight, Kane wanted it more. I tell the girls every year that there is nothing more dangerous than playing a team that you have beaten earlier in the season. They feel like they have something to prove, and Kane brought their energy and effort to our gym and took the win this match..
In the loss for Sheffield, Emily Davidson had 29 digs, Lily Richards 22 assists, Emma Roell 17 digs and 5 aces and Katie Finch 5 kills and 4 blocks.
Sheffield’s JV won, 25-19, 25-19. Peyton Heeter had 8 assists, Kaelon Connolly 5 kills, and Maddy Snell 7 digs.
EAGLES FALL TO CONNEAUT
LINESVILLE — Youngsville ran into a team full of some of the best hitters in District 10 Thursday during a 3-0 loss to Conneaut Area.
Conneaut, which has won a region championship in five of the last six seasons, won the sets in convincing fashion, 25-14, 25-7, 25-6.
Madilynn Johnson had five assists and seven digs for the Eagles, while Alyssa Gentz finished with five digs and Riley Robinault and Rachael Lucks added two kills each.
Conneaut was a 25-5, 25-5 winner in the junior varsity contest. Shay Reilly and Avery Dalrymple had two digs apiece in the loss.
Youngsville finishes a busy week today, hosting Forest Area which the Eagles defeated in five sets earlier this season.
