‘Great team effort’

Dragons shut out Meadville

Warren’s girls soccer team led 9-0 at halftime en route to an 11-0 Region 6 win over Meadville on Thursday at War Memorial Field.

“It was a great team effort tonight,” said Warren coach Mark Ordiway, whose Dragons are 5-5 overall and 2-0 in the region after their third straight shutout. “We were dominant at all levels of the field. Everyone has settled into their roles and things are really starting to click as a team.”

Meea Irwin, a junior who became the program’s all-time leader in career goals Tuesday, added five more goals against Meadville to up that number to 94.

“(She) did all her damage in the first half,” said Ordiway. “Lilly Stanley and Madison Jones scored their first varsity goals, and Bailey Williams scored her first goal of the season.”

Leyna Irwin had a goal and two assists and Lani Wenzel added one of each. Meadville also had an own goal to cap the scoring.

Meea Irwin added three assists and Jones also assisted a goal for Warren. Bella Campbell had 11 saves in goal.
