Eisenhower seeks another win at Northwestern

The Eisenhower Knights (2-1) are on the road again tonight as they take the long trip to Albion to face Northwestern (0-3).

Eisenhower is coming off a water-logged win over Iroquois 7-0 last week while the Wildcats fell to Mercyhurat Prep 28-7.

Northwestern’s score was a little deceiving according to Knights head coach Jim Penley.

“Northwestern has improved tremendously over the last year,” he said. “They played Mercyhurst Prep 7-7 going into the fourth quarter. This is a good football team. We have to be ready for them.”

Northwestern is led by 6-foot-1 junior quarterback Braden Swift, who has thrown for 273 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. The Wildcats’ rushing game is led by a pair of running backs — Jaimie Barzano and David White — who have each rushed for over 150 yards and a touchdown.

The strength of Northwestern, according to Penley, is its defense.

“They are very disciplined, but all 11 players go to the football,” he said of the Wildcats. “They play tremendous team defense and their secondary is outstanding; they are gifted with size and speed.”

The Knights have found their rhythm as far as their ground game. Six-foot-3 junior quarterback Caleb Jakubczak leads the Knights with 253 yards and a touchdown on the ground on 29 attempts. Six-foot junior running back Logan Penley is right behind Jakubczak with 223 yards on 45 carries.

Tonight’s game kicks off at 7 at Northwestern High School.

Starting at $3.50/week.
