Warren tennis upends Harbor Creek 4-1

HARBORCREEK — The Warren High boys tennis team took care of business Tuesday as it defeated the Harbor Creek Huskies 4-1.

Looking to keep the momentum going after defeating the Elk County Catholic last Friday, the Dragons played tough defense, and capitalized on the offensive end when it mattered most all while braving the windy elements.

Warren is now 10-1 on the season and 3-1 in region play.

“It’s great to grab another region win and start off a busy week on the right foot,” Dragons head coach Thomas Pellegrino said. “These next two days will decide if we make district playoffs this year, so the boys are hungry and focused.”

Warren will host Erie High tomorrow at Betts Park in a key Region 2 AAA matchup. Weather permitting, start time is 4 p.m.

Owen Drabic (HC) d. Lucas Thrift 6-3, 7-6; Gabe Dougherty (W) d. Eli Mitchell 6-2, 6-3; Jaxon Thrift (W) d. Blake Hguyen 6-3, 6-1; Gaven Mealy/Bill Bennett (W) d. Donovan Griffith/Connor Ferrick 6-4, 6-2; Tobiah Reinard/Karson McCollough (W) d. Liam Ferrick/Abby Michali 6-3, 6-1; Josh Westover, Grant Newton, Trey Carrington, Luc Wilkins, and Bentley Sherry were winners in JV play.

FRIDAY

WARREN POSTS 2 WINS

ST. MARYS — The Warren boys tennis team had another impressive performance Friday as the Dragons took on Elk County Catholic in a doubleheader and were victorious over the Crusaders in both matches.

“With all of the cancellations we have had this season, we took advantage of the good weather and made the decision to get both matches in today,” said head tennis coach Thomas Pellegrino. “With it being a long day, we made some lineup adjustments in each match and were able to get 11 varsity players to see the court to compete and gain experience.

Warren improved to 9-1 overall on the year. The Dragons have a busy upcoming week as they have a match every day from Monday through Saturday, if weather permits.

“We didn’t play our best in the match against McDowell on Wednesday. We gave away too many free points and were struggling to finish out games,” Pellegrino said. “This was a great way to come back from that loss earlier in the week and gain some confidence before our region against Cathedral Prep on Monday.”
