Warren’s volleyball team needed every part of five games to win its opener over Maplewood on Tuesday at Warren Area High School.
“It was nice to grind out a win in the varsity game against a very good Maplewood team that played great defense,” said Warren coach Mike Dolan, whose Dragons won 25-20, 26-24, 19-25, 23-25, 15-13. “It was tough to find the floor against them, but when we kept it clean, we were effective on offense.”
Maddy Jones finished with 18 kills and 15 digs; Lindsay Madigan had 40 assists, 15 digs, 3 aces, and 5 kills; Madelyn Nosel 21 kills, 10 digs; Julia Getner 5 kills; Malysia Sorensen 29 digs, 2 aces; Attie Corey 3 kills, 3 blocks; Lauren Fajbik 3 kills; and Sophie Walker 12 digs and 2 aces.
“It was a nice team win with everyone contributing and a great early-season test heading into Region 5 play on Thursday,” said Dolan. “Hopefully we keep our focus and improve the little things and keep getting mentally tougher going forward.”
