ALTOONA — Among 38 teams, Warren Area High School had first-place finishes from Sam Lindell in the 3,200-meter run and Laney Gatto in the pole vault Friday at the Altoona Mt. Lion Track and Field Classic at Mansion Park.

In the 2A Boys 3,200 meters, Lindell finished first out of 25 in 9:52.02 — 7 seconds ahead of Windber’s Joseph McKelvey (9:57.61).

For the Lady Dragons, Gatto was first in pole vault out of 20 competitors in a new school-record 12 feet, breaking her own record from earlier this season.

“We sent some to Altoona and some to Coudersport,” said Warren coach Kevin Dustin. “We had a good day at both invites. There were a host of personal-bests and some new district qualifiers. Happy with where some of our kids are getting right now as we move into the end of the season with our eyes on an undefeated season and region championship for the girls, districts, and PIAA state championships.”

In other results, Quinn Norris finished eighth in the 1,600 meters and 11th in the 800 meters for Warren’s boys.

For Warren’s girls team, Morgan Alexander was fourth (11:55.75) and Riley Evan seventh in the 3,200 meters; Lindsay Madigan was sixth in the 100-meter dash finals in 13.19 seconds; Lilly Newton was eighth in the 400 meters and eighth in high jump (4-10); Brynn Norris was eighth in the 1,600 meters and 14th in the 800 meters; and Adison Cullers was ninth in the 300-meter hurdles.

For the Lady Dragons, sophomore Zoe Rodgers topped 29 other athletes in discus with a throw of 99 feet, 10 inches. She won by 1 inch over Canton Area’s Alexis McRoberts. Warren’s Aurora Feaster was 13th.

For the Warren boys, Tommaso Clemente was eighth in the 100-meter dash; Matt Sowa eighth in the 3,200 meters; Patrick Ross ninth in the 110-meter hurdles; Scott Nichols II ninth in the 300-meter hurdles; and Johnny Corbett and Jacob McMeans both jumped 5 feet in high jump.
