Warren’s boys tennis team is 4-0 overall after a 4-1 win on Tuesday over visiting Grove City.

In first singles, Warren’s Abe Wolf dropped a tough three-set battle at Betts Park with Grove City’s Caleb Baumgartner 3-6, 6-3, 6-7 (3-7).

At second singles, Adam Strandburg needed three sets to put away Landon Mercer 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 6-2.

Carson Moore defeated Ethan Pisano 7-5, 6-4, in the third-singles slot.

“All three of these singles matches were tight contests and really could have gone either way,” said Warren coach Thomas Pellegrino, whose Dragons are 3-0 in Region 1. “We found we were able to keep adjusting as the matches progressed and grab some big points in the right moments.”

At first doubles, the pair of Jack Lynds and Ben Scott defeated Landon Schofield and Ben Donnelly 6-0, 7-6 (7-3).

At second doubles, the Warren pair of Brody Alexander and Collin Ellis beat Marcus Kelly and Ashton Morrow 6-0, 6-4.

“Both doubles matches started off great, grabbing quick first sets, but Grove City wasn’t going down without a fight and really pushed us in both of the second sets,” said Pellegrino. “We were pleased with how our boys played when the closing sets got tight.

“Overall, this was the most competitive match we have had all season and we are happy to grab another region win on the year,” he added.

Also for Warren, Owen Baldensperger, Tobiah Reinard, Grady Corey, Elliot Striker, Finn Ordiway, Josh Westover, Bill Bennett and Jack Napolitan were victorious in junior varsity play.

Warren travels to Lakewood, New York, today to play Maple Grove indoors at the Lakewood YMCA. The match starts at 5 p.m.
