Warren girls win 5th straight

CORRY — Sammie Ruhlman’s 3-pointer gave Warren’s girls basketball team a four-point lead at halftime, and the Dragons stormed out in the second half for a 48-30 Region 5 win over Corry on Thursday at Corry Area High School.

Ruhlman, Alana Stuart and Meea Irwin scored six points apiece in a 28-14 second half to lift Warren to its fifth straight win.

“Our shots started to fall better with better shot selection,” said Warren coach Lisa LaVan, whose Dragons are 10-4 overall and 4-0 in the region. “We settled in on ‘D,’ too. The girls grind so hard on defense. I am a proud coach.”

Ruhlman finished with 12 points and five assists, and Halle Kuzminski 10 points and 10 rebounds for Warren. Irwin, Stuart, and Peyton Wotorson added 8, 7, and 6 points, respectively, in a balanced scoring effort, and Stuart finished with eight rebounds.

“Peyton (Wotorson) and Emma Roell stepped up in a big way tonight,” said LaVan. “Very proud of how hard they work and how far they have come this season.”

Halle Albers and Haley Mumau had two 3-pointers apiece in a first half that saw the Beavers (7-8, 2-2) right in the contest. They finished with 12 points each in the loss.

Warren hosts McDowell on Saturday evening.
