Dragons fall at Harbor Creek
HARBORCREEK — Warren’s girls soccer team fell 5-1 on Saturday in a nonregion match at Harbor Creek.
“We started slowly and were down three goals early,” said Warren coach Mark Ordiway, whose Dragons are 3-4 overall, but remain 1-0 in Region 6. “All three goals were long shots where we didn’t maintain pressure on the ball. The first two goals were kind of lucky on their part, actually.
“Although we were down early, the girls battled hard the entire game,” he said. “No one hung their heads and they stayed together as a team.”
Leyna Irwin scored Warren’s goal on a 30-yard free kick placed just under the crossbar and over the keeper’s hands.
“Hailey Peterson continued her strong play in net,” said Ordiway. “She is having a great season and continues to get better each game.
“We’re in the middle of a tough stretch of our schedule,” he said. “Saturday was our fourth road game in eight days. The girls are pretty banged up and half the team is sick as well. We were minus one starter on defense who couldn’t make the trip due to illness.”
